" Ending” simply by Gavin Ewart

The love all of us thought would not stop

at this point cools like a congealing chop.

The kisses that had been hot since curry

are bird-pecks consumed in a hurry.

The feet that ran to fulfill a date

are running slow and running late.

The eye that shone and almost never shut

are victims of any power lower.

The parts that in that case transmitted joy

are now set aside and cool and coy.

Romance, expected once to stay,

has left a note declaring Gone Apart.
