Persepolis vs . Infidel: Faithful Sinner or Spiritual Prophet

Late 70's early on 80's signaled an important trend in Middle section Eastern and African countries; The Islamic Revolution. In Infidel by simply Aayan Hirsi Ali, we all begin to observe what is most significant to some women and why they do what they do. Hirsi Ali introduces the veil by describing why her mother dressed in one, since she had no security on the street, males bothered her constantly, " She commenced wearing a veil…a long dark-colored cloth that left simply a slit for their eyes. The veil protected her from those leering men, and in the feeling of vileness it gave her being looked at that way. Her veil was a great emblem other folks belief being loved of God, could onlu be modest” (Hirsi Ali 26-27). So now, it is the knowning that this is important to many women to feel guarded from males on the roads. As a youngster, Aayan extends back and on on what she really wants to do in relation to religion. This lady has a lot of influences from different locations, but she has a change of heart once she complies with Sister Aziza, her teacher. Sister Aziza " cloaked herself in full hidjab. It was spectacular” (143) Aayan admired her because of her honesty and her diverse way of teaching the lessons. All of the teachers she had just before have always compelled the religion with no which means and they were forced to believe just because it had been " the proper thing”. Although in Infidel, Aayan also used a veil, it was much different for Satrapi in Persepolis. Satrapi in 1980 is forced to wear the veil, resulting from the Islamic Revolution demos in 1979. People have varying views about it and " All around the streets there are demonstrations for and against the veil” (Satrapi 5). Marji is seperated from her friends because they visited a " French non-religious school…where young boys and girls were together” (4) and suddenly in 1980, the shah shuts down all bilingual schools and they are segregated. But soon, Marji features feelings wherever she says " I really failed to know what to think about the veil, deep down I was incredibly religious but as family i was very modern and avant-garde. ” (6). The internal have difficulty keeps her from wearing the veil and this is very different kind Infidel because Aayan is usually not allowed to actually make her own decisions but now one can see that the veiled choice is remaining in the hands of a ten-year old.
